Slug Patrol

The slugs and I are battling for the dahlias.  So far the slugs are winning.

Each morning and evening I'm gaining a little more ground. 

These slugs ended up between a rock and a hard place....

No, that one did not manage to escape.

I'm faster than any slug.

There are five varieties of hostas growing in this spot.  Wish I could remember the names of them all.  The one with the light strip down the middle is called Striptease:)

Late at night, in the garage, with poor lighting....

but I kind of like the slightly greenish tinge to the flowers.

Was able to round up enough flowers to make two bouquets for Sunday's market.

Still Rising

I took the dogs down to the dyke for a swim this afternoon.  I think the water is up a foot from last Saturday when we were there.

The Best View

I was laid in bed this morning, and heard a neighbour's dog barking non-stop.  The I heard a familiar  'fffffffffst'.  Yep, a hot air balloon.  I was kind of surprised, as it wasn't a clear morning.  I dashed outside in my nightie, with camera, and three dogs going crazy figuring there must be something really exciting out there.  Well until we got out the front door,  and Jake heard the sound, and his tail went down and he shot back inside.

Anyway, the balloon wasn't that close, so I didn't have to worry about the passengers spotting my lovely attire (well...I suppose they might have had binoculars..uh oh...)

It's always fun to see them float past.  We've never had one land in our field, but they've put down in our neighbour's once or twice.

The First One!

I finally spotted a hummingbird this morning.  It was a long way off, but it's the first one I've seen this year.  I've heard them when we've been walking through the bush in the morning, but haven't been able to see them.
