Stuck in a Rut

More flowers.  Broad beans this time.  They actually have quite interesting flowers when you take a close look.

Lupin

If I can't come up with anything else to photograph, there's probably always something ready to flower at this time of the year.

Last Ditch Attempt

The last thing on my mind these days seems to be taking a photo for this blog.  So as it was getting dim this evening I took the camera out, and this is the best of what I got.  Okay, Smudge isn't quite as fat as this makes her appear.  She has that look in her eye, like she's not quite sure I'm pointing the camera at her, but maybe she should get ready to run anyway.

Caution! Farm Vehicle

When you are driving behind one of these, you just hope the driver doesn't turn the sprayer on by mistake.

For those who don't know, that tank contains liquid manure that is sprayed on the field.  Luckily this one was empty, as here it's turning back into the farm for a refill.

Brrrr!

Finally had to break down this evening and turn some heat back on.
With this cold Spring, we are well into burning what was supposed to be next Winter's wood.

Canuck Fever!

Tuesday's photo

I'm not much of a hockey fan, and don't bother watching the games, but even I can get caught up in the excitement when the 'local' team is on a run to the Stanley Cup.
The Vancouver Canucks won in the second overtime last night, and are in the finals.
Go Canucks Go!

All Tucked In

This is the only photo I took today of any interest.  You'd think though, that I could get one where the metal bars weren't across their eyes.  It wasn't very pleasant outside, and I threw that cute paw-print blanket over them.  Not that it lasted long there....

Spring Produce

Five bunches of rhubarb and five bunches of radishes.  That's it for produce for tomorrow's farmers market

Kinda Like Yesterday

 White flower, blue sky....
Too much going on, so just pick something easy to photograph.

Only One Chance....

....to get a shot of this house finch (I think), this morning.  I'm not putting seed out anymore.  I don't think they are a bird I've seen much of here, maybe that's because I'm not feeding them.

Confetti!

All this confetti....did I miss a wedding?

The cherry tree was late to bloom, and when it finally did it seems the rain is wasting no time knocking the blossoms off.

Edible!

There is actually something growing in the garden that has made it to the edible stage!

A Start

Yesterday I did get some of those bedding plants into pots.  It's a miracle actually.  Usually they have to sit around for weeks until they are almost dead.  I know you are supposed to pinch the flowers off so the plants  put more energy into growing roots, and it also makes the plant bushier.
Sorry, can't do it.  They'll get there eventually.

The Real Thing

Real sunshine this morning, on a flower growing outside, not a bedding plant still sitting in the greenhouse.

When it's Pouring Rain....

When it pours rain all day you have to look for a bit of sunshine wherever you can find it.

Cherry Blossoms

Our ornamental cherry tree is finally in full bloom.
Only about 3 1/2 weeks behind last year.

In the Greenhouse

A couple of flats of bedding plants....oh so easy to buy, not quite so easy to actually do something with.
Well I did make a hanging basket up for my mum, which accounts for the missing plants.

And tonight, those mouse traps are baited with peanut butter right at the end of the little plate thing, so it is as sensitive to pressure as I can make it.  The other night I shoved a bit of cheese onto the prong at the other end, and all the cheese was stolen with not a trap sprung.
Hopefully the mice think they are on to a good thing....
Morning will tell.
They've destroyed too many of my seedlings.
The war is on.

Mother's Day

While at my mum's this afternoon, I went looking through her old albums, as I thought there was a four generation photo.  Turns out the lady I thought was my great grandmother was actually my great great aunt.
Is there such a thing?
She was my great grandmother's sister.

Did find this photo though, of three different generations, taken about 50 years ago.
That's my great grandmother, my mum, Cathy and myself.  I'm the one with the big square face:(

Hope all you mothers did something special today.

King of the Dark Hill

We were just coming back from your walk around the block with the dogs.  That's the walk we take when we need to get the dogs out, but we don't want to spend a lot of time, or drive anywhere.  It's about a mile in total, not far for a couple of border collies, but one leg of the square at least is a laneway with no traffic, so they can all be off leash.  We were coming back up to our place, and the neighbour's red angus bull was stood surveying his domain.  I said that I wished I'd seen him sooner, so he could have been my picture for today.  But then I figured I'd try it anyway.  It was already half dark.  I thought it would be kind of cool if I could get down low enough to have him silhouetted against the sky, but I wasn't about to crawl through the fence and lay on the ground close to him to try do that.  As it was I was having to be careful that I didn't get a jolt from the electric wire as I balanced the camera on the gate.

Bumbleberry

Jam that is.
Blackberries, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and rhubarb.  Mmmmm!

Actually, I think it looks kind of gross in this picture:(

Rain

And it rained again today.
Nothing like the leaves of Lady's Mantle to catch and hold the rain drops.

Finally!

You know how I've been on about how much later Spring is this year?  Everything has it's own lateness, but I think the fruit trees are the most behind of all.
Finally though, we have blossoms.
Pear blossoms.

This photo below was taken today (of course!)
The lawn had just been cut.

This photo was taken on March 31 last year.
That makes the pear tree five weeks late compared to last year.
It also had more blossoms last year.
It's been a long, cold, wet five weeks.

Pregnant Pause

This mare lives next door to us and is due to foal in less than two weeks, which actually means she could foal anytime between now and the beginning of June.

Shot in the late evening sunlight, 20x zoom.

OOps!

Sometimes this 365 day photo thing is a bit of a chore.  I did take photos yesterday, but forgot all about posting them.  I took these photos because of this blog

Blue Skies and Cherry Blossoms

A shot snapped quickly on a beautiful May Day.
Finally, we have some fruit tree blossoms.  The cherry tree is bursting into bloom.  Not that we'll get more than a few cherries off it anyway.  The crows get most of them before they are even fully ripe.
