Supper

Tuesday, June 28/11

The first meal of new potatoes.  A little butter, salt and pepper....mmmm
A little mint sauce isn't bad either:)

Coming Back Home

Monday June 27/11

I love poking around in thrift stores.  When Value Village had a half price sale on Monday, I was there. I always check to see what they have for canning jars, and imagine my surprise when I saw these there.  So from my kitchen, to someone else's kitchen, to Value Village, and back to my kitchen they came.

A Face Only a Mother Could Love

This is NOT a good photo.  I was using a tiny little point and shoot, and had actually pushed the 3X zoom into digital zoom accidently, so the resolution went all to heck.
This little Sharpei puppy was so ugly it was cute.

Rain Drops on Roses....

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple streudels
Doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

This is one of those miniature roses that you buy as a house plant.
There were four stems in the little four inch pot.  I planted them all outside.  Three of them survived, through two winters now.  The two biggest ones are loaded with blooms.

A Touch of Gold

A Goldfinch eating dandelion seeds in our hayfield.
I crept closer and closer until I was only about 10 feet away.

I wish the bird had been in focus in this shot though:(

Forgetful

Thursday June 23/11

Some days I totally forget about taking a photo, so have to find something inside, last minute, before I go to bed.
Yesterday Fabricland had a half price sale.  Here's one of the cute fabrics I bought.  I'll make some kid's aprons out of it.

Clouds

Wednesday June 22/11

Sun rising on the first full day of Summer.

Clouds of pollen blowing off the hay field.  Thankfully none of us are allergic to it.
We just haven't had enough good days in a row yet to allow us to get the hay cut and dried enough to bale.

The beautiful sky and layers of different clouds, taken through the truck window on our way back from our bike ride.  It was just lovely, which this photo doesn't show well enough.

It's a Bit Depressing

Tuesday June 21/11

The sun sets on the first day of Summer, at the end of the Spring that never was.  The days are getting shorter now:(

Not on my Light

There were two swallows sitting on the clothesline this morning, just a couple of feet from the window.  Then they'd flutter around the wall of the house.  When I went outside, they were checking out the light fixture on the wall over the deck.  It was one of the new ones I put up last Fall.
You're not building a nest there!

Colourful!

A deal on a flat of bedding plants.....
So of course I bought two. Wish I could plant them as easily as I can buy them.

Slug Patrol

The slugs and I are battling for the dahlias.  So far the slugs are winning.
Each morning and evening I'm gaining a little more ground.
These slugs ended up between a rock and a hard place....

No, that one did not manage to escape.
I'm faster than any slug.

All Shades of Green

There are five varieties of hostas growing in this spot.  Wish I could remember the names of them all.  The one with the light strip down the middle is called Striptease:)

Pick a Little Posy

Saturday, June 11

Late at night, in the garage, with poor lighting....
but I kind of like the slightly greenish tinge to the flowers.
Was able to round up enough flowers to make two bouquets for Sunday's market.

Still Rising

I took the dogs down to the dyke for a swim this afternoon.  I think the water is up a foot from last Saturday when we were there.

The Best View

I was laid in bed this morning, and heard a neighbour's dog barking non-stop.  The I heard a familiar  'fffffffffst'.  Yep, a hot air balloon.  I was kind of surprised, as it wasn't a clear morning.  I dashed outside in my nightie, with camera, and three dogs going crazy figuring there must be something really exciting out there.  Well until we got out the front door,  and Jake heard the sound, and his tail went down and he shot back inside.
Anyway, the balloon wasn't that close, so I didn't have to worry about the passengers spotting my lovely attire (well...I suppose they might have had binoculars..uh oh...)
It's always fun to see them float past.  We've never had one land in our field, but they've put down in our neighbour's once or twice.

The First One!

I finally spotted a hummingbird this morning.  It was a long way off, but it's the first one I've seen this year.  I've heard them when we've been walking through the bush in the morning, but haven't been able to see them.

Game Feet

Luna's got her game feet on.
Green for the Canucks
Okay, we won't talk about the score in that game:(

Hairy Helpers

Sunday June 5/11

Need help with that last bit of bison hot dog....
Or licking that greasy finger.....
We're here for ya!

Ouch!

There must have been some pain involved.  Our hens laid these eggs yesterday.  The one on the right is an extra large.  The one on the left is just painful:(
She must have thought she was a goose.
The egg looks like it has a seam around the middle.

Census Time

June 2
It's Census time here in Canada.  The basic form is simple enough.
Because we have farm income, we are extra special and get the agricultural census form as well.  That's 16  8 1/2 x 14" pages of extra information we have to fill in.    Things like how many acres of basil do we grow. More like how many square feet......
We are such minor players, and but have quite a variety of different things, and it's just a huge pain in the arse...
And no it's not done yet.

Doesn't it make you laugh how they say 'do not include wild deer'....
Why don't they say 'do not include wild rabbits'?
